Garden Center

I love creating fun spaces in my Dramatic Play area. In our newest unit, “Things That Grow”, children constructed a Garden Center. I’ve included the lesson plan below 🙂 Let me know if you’d like me to add the state standards that go along with it!

Students compared and contrasted our Garden Center to community gardens, habitats, and the classroom. Children were encouraged to collaborate, i.e. one child paints, another child adheres materials to garden. We even graphed data about their Garden center; from number of vegetables and flowers, to number of animals above and below soil. My school is in the heart of the city so it’s hard to come by any Garden Centers nearby. We do however have Boston Common down the road so I’m excited to take the kids on a field trip to a public garden come June!
